The pages for this account book were found bound within two separate volumes of Laws of Maryland. The first of these volumes to be obtained by the Hall of Records was Laws of Maryland, 1790, whose title page bears the script "Thos. Stone." It was purchased from the John Gach Bookservice in 1976. Bound at the back of this volume were found folios 13-20, 23-74, 77-109, and 112-119 of the account book of a Baltimore merchant.
In 1977, Dr. Edward Papenfuse, while on a visit to the Massachusetts State Library, found the missing folios 1-2, 5-10, and 120-232 of this account book bound within the Massuchusetts State Library's copy of Laws of Maryland, 1788. Dr. A. Hunter Rineer, State Librarian for Massachusetts, graciously agreed to remove these folios from the library's volume of Laws and present them to the Hall of Records so that this record could be recreated and preserved.
