Description
Historical notes and speech concerning Japanese contacts with Maryland. Includes notes on Baltimore's earliest contacts with Japan; Commodore Matthew Perry's expedition to Japan, 1852; the first Japanese diplomatic mission to the United States, 1860 and Joseph Heco, a Japanese sailor educated in Baltimore 1854. Collection includes newspaper excerpts 1852 and 1860; biography of Joseph Heco, and the History of Kanagawa, Kanagawa Prefectural Government [see Library 16-01-01].
