Description
Piece / slice from the elm tree under which George Washington supposedly received his commission in Cambridge, Massachusetts, 3 July 1775. Pencil writing on slice notes a name and the date of " E. L. Ball (or Bail?) 1927".

The tree, known as the "Washington Elm", fell on October 26, 1923. Historians believe the original story linking George Washington to the Cambridge tree may be nothing more than a legend.
