Description
St. Mark's Church, St. Mark's Parish, Protestant Episcopal, Frederick County, Petersville: vestry minutes 1806-1874, 1882-1917.
History
St. Mark's Church was established in 1806 although irregular services were held in the region as early as the 1780s. By 1806, the congregation at Petersville resolved to begin a subscription to complete their church. The original log structure was consecrated in 1819. By 1831, a new brick structure was erected on a lot adjoining the original church building. In 1890 it was replaced by the present church structure, characterized by Doric and Gothic details, five memorial windows, and a belfry.

A two-acre cemetery is located on the church grounds. Former governor Francis Thomas and his parents, Colonel John and Eleanor Thomas, are buried here.
