In 1841, the congregation of St. Paul's purchased property in Frostburg which could be converted to a church, rectory and schoolhouse. Between 1842 and 1853, however, it appears that little was done towards the establishment of a church at the site. Although some services were held here, the small congregation was served by clergymen of nearby churches. In 1853 approval was granted to organize a new congregation at Frostburg and a lot was purchased. The name "St. John's Church" appears to have been chosen for this new congregation. Within a few years, improvements were made to the church building. The present Gothic-style church was built in 1890 and consecrated on June 17, 1902.
