History
The Church of St. Ann, more properly referred to as St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church on Greenmount Avenue and East 22nd Street, was constructed through the largess of Captain William Kennedy, commander of one of the famous Baltimore clipper ships. In a bad storm off the coast of Cuba, he vowed to build a church if he and the ship returned to port safely. In 1872 when Captain Kennedy returned home he provided land and funds for the church and provided a temporary place for the young congregation to worship at his home on the corner of Homewood Avenue and York Road.
