History
St. Philip's Chapel was organized in 1892 as a mission of Emmanuel Church, Cumberland. According to the Maryland Historical Records Survey, the first church of this predominantly African-American congregation was constructed in 1901. It was replace in 1930 by a red brick building with Gothic arched windows and a small Tiffany window over the altar.
