The Maryland News began publication began August 25, 1927 [vol. 1, no. 1]. It published weekly, beginning December 21, 1934; weekly 1927-November 1929; semiweekly, December 1929-December 14, 1934. It was also published as the Maryland News and Monitor. The newspaper was formed by the union of the Chevy Chase Gazette and the Takoma News (Takoma Park: 1923) and absorbed the Montgomery News-Advocate, the Kensington Citizen (Kensington: 1946), and the Silver Spring Post (Silver Spring: 1940).
