The Cumberland Civilian began publication September 18, 1829 [v. 2, no. 32] and ceased in 1833. It was published weekly. It was published as the Civilian [August 21, 1832 - April 9, 1833]. The newspaper continues the Civilian (Cumberland: 1828) and was continued by the Phoenix Civilian (Cumberland: 1833).

Microfilming of these newspapers was made possible through funds provided by the Maryland State Archives and the United States Newspaper Program of the Library of Congress and the Office of Preservation, National Endowment for the Humanities.
