North Avenue Methodist Episcopal Church was carved from Madison Square Methodist Episcopal Church in 1888 when a small chapel, built on the corner of North Avenue and Caroline Street, was leased by the Madison Square Church. In 1892 North Avenue became a separate station. A new and larger church was dedicated on January 5, 1896.
In 1919, the membership of the Jefferson Methodist Episcopal Church was received into the North Avenue congregation. In 1920, sixty-nine members from the Church of the Redeemer (P.E.) were received. In 1939, another large group of members came to North Avenue when the former Harford Avenue Church closed its doors. Madison Square later merged into North Avenue. |
