History
The first Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church South was held in 1866. The following year Worthington Chapel in eh village of Beltsville became one of the churches associated with the Washington District of the new Conference. By 1878 Worthington Chapel was part of the Bladensburg Circuit along with Branchville, COlesville, and Four Corners. Two years later the circuit became Bladensburg Emory Circuit, which then consisted of the churches at Beltsville, Branchville, and Hyattsville.

In 1893 Worthington Chapel was renamed Emmanuel. Between 1923 and 1926 Beltsville and Branchville were stations but from mid-1926 to 1950, through reunion with other branches of Methodism, they constituted the Beltsville-Branchville Circuit of the Washington East District. In 1950 the two churches were again separated and each made into a station.

Six years later Branchville was renamed North Church and eventually merged with the church at College Park. The Conference Minutes of 1970 place Emmanuel on the Washington West District but in 1975 it was placed on the Washington Central District.
