The Baltimore American began publication in 1883 and ceased in 1918. It was published semiweekly, beginning April 3, 1894; weekly, [July 1, 1893]-March 31, 1894. Title history based on July 1, 1893 [v. 44, no. 26]. It was also published as the Twice-A-Week American and the Twice A Week American. Other editions include the Baltimore American (Baltimore: 1883-1964: daily). The newspaper continues the Baltimore Weekly American (Baltimore: 1855-1883).

Archives' collection includes issue for January 11, 1912 [MSA SC 1925-1-61].
