Description
Papers of James Brooke (1705-1784) and his sons Roger Brooke (1734-1790 of Brooke Grove, and Colonel Richard Brooke (1736-1788) of Fair Hill, and his grandson Roger Brooke (1774-1860). James Brooke established himself as a planter in what is now Montgomery County and held approximately 30,000 acres of land. He was the founder of an active Quaker settlement centering the Sandy Spring Meeting.
