The American Farmer, and Spirit of the Agricultural Journals of the Day began publication May 29, 1839 [new ser., v. 1, no. 1] and ceased June 1849 [new ser., v. 4, no. 12]. It was published monthly, July 1845-June 1849; weekly, May 1839-[May 14, 1845]. The newspaper continues the Farmer & Gardener (Baltimore: 1835) and was continued by the American Farmer (Baltimore: 1849).
