Index, abstracts from Maryland newspapers relating to Maryland's role in the creation and ratification of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Project objectives include maintaining running notes of Maryland news, March 1785 to the Bill of Rights; complete chronological catalogue of arguments, pro and con, on Constitutional issues; local color anecdotes and graphics; identification of anonymous and pseudonym authors (if possible); references to articles concerning Maryland in out-of-state papers; and photostating of important or representative articles. Key topics include: trade and commerce - foreign and interstate; confederation - alliances between states and references to federal government; western lands; conferences and conventions, especially Mt. Vernon, Annapolis and Philadelphia; debtor-creditor items; and constitutional events in Maryland.
