Description
Papers of the Henry Maynadier Fitzhugh family, including letters, journals and various items from Ellicott and Tyson families of Baltimore. Collection microfilmed prior to being sold at auction through C.G. Sloan & Co. and includes materials from the following lots: 847: Ledger, Ellicott & Co., listing entries of purchases and payments, 1774-1775, including William Tyson, Charles Fox, Charles Carroll, Benjamin Banneker, Nathan Magruder, Samuel Riggs, and many others. 850: [Ship's Log] "Journal Onboard the Ship Latham, John Prince Commander Ona Voyage to Bencoolen and China, 1770" written by George Lee Mason Fitshugh and listing the 113 officers, servants and crew of the Latham during its voyages from Bencollen to ports in China and St. Helena, during which seven sailors "run," four died, and one drowned before reaching home port in England. 851: Letterbook. On cover: "J.B. Ellicott", 1815-1816; Genealogy of the Maryland Branch of the Tyson Family by Malcolm Van Vechten Tyson, 1902; guestbook, Includes names of visitors at "Jerico," 1841-1849; letterbook, "Letters and papers perserved in the desk of Elizabeth Ellicott who died 29th of 11th mo. 1853 age more than 92 years." Martha E. Tyson 1856, ca. 1750s-ca. 1850s, including the wills of James Beall and James Brooke, Jr. and letters of James, Elizabeth and Hannah Brooke, Andrew Ellicott, Deborah Pleasants, James and Evan Ellicott, Henry Tucker, Elizabeth Tyson, Henry Brooke, Lucy Fitzhugh, Mary (Farquhar?), Maria Bloom, Henry Tyson, and Elizabeth R. Dorsey; Journal, Martha Ellicott, 1813; letterbook, "Letters of various dates and from various persons", 1804-1851; letterbook, "Letters of Rachel Masan", 1698-1840s, including letters to Nathan and Martha Tyson and Elizabeth Ellicott; letterbook, "Letters from George & Elizabeth Ellicott, 1811-1851"; letterbook, "Letters from Nathan Tysan his wife & children", 1844-1850; letterbook, "Letters from Mary Ellicott", 1819-1838; letterbook, on cover: "James Brooke" in pencil in later hand, including letters of Margaret Carroll, Elizabeth Ellicott, Moses Sheppard, Roger Brooke, and John H.B. Latrobe 867: Travel journal/North American Indians. Manuscript journal, possibly secretarial copy. Two quartos, one octavo, 1798 868: 17 manuscript pages by Martha E. Tyson describing her grand-uncle, Joseph Ellicott and his sons, and mentioning Banneker in relation to the Federal Territory
