The Ocean began publication in 1840 and ceased in 1846[?]. It was published weekly. Title history based on July 4, 1840. It was also published as the Ocean and Weekly Clipper. Other editions include the Baltimore Clipper (Baltimore: 1839), the American Republican and Baltimore Daily Clipper (Baltimore: 1844), and Bull and Tuttle's New Monthly Baltimore Clipper and General Advertiser (Baltimore: 1844). The newspaper was continued by the Baltimore Weekly Clipper (Baltimore: 1847).
