The Afro-American began publication in August 1892 and ceased in 1900[?]. It was published weekly as a African American newspaper. Title history based on April 29, 1893 [v. 1, no. 32]. It was also published as the Afro American. The newspaper continues the Home Protector and merged with the Ledger (Baltimore: 1898) to form the Afro-American Ledger (Baltimore: 1900).

This title is available on microfilm from the Library of Congress for the Committee on Negro Studies of the American Council of Learned Societies.
