Description
Letter, from John Hewes to his father Edward, discussing his sale of the Baltimore newspaper Federal Gazette and Baltimore Daily Advertiser to William Gwynn and obituary by Gwynn's sister Orpaha Gwynn, of Senator Bayard of Delaware, published in the Baltimore Federal Gazette, ca. August 7, 1815. Note: Robert Barnes, Marriages and Deaths from Baltimore Newspapers, 1796-1816,, Baltimore, 1978, p. 154, notes the marriage of John Hewes, proprietor of the Federal Gazette to Rachel T. Ellicott, dau. of Elias Ellicott, at the Friends Meeting House in Lombard Street, on January 15, 1812. Rachel died on October 9, 1842 (Baltimore Sun, from Thomas L. Hollowak, Marriages and Deaths in the Baltimore Sun, 1837-1850, Baltimore: 1978, p. 271).
