Description
Case files relating to the approximately 250 child residents/orphans of the Maryland International Order of Odd Fellows Home in Frederick, Maryland (Note: files are each assigned a unique number and it appears that a number are missing or, perhaps, the missing numbers simply represent rejected applications, and thus, the reason for gaps in the numerical order.). The orphanage accepted the children of Odd Fellows lodge members, from around the state, starting sometime in 1926 to its closing in July of 1944. Most residents appeared to have been placed into the Home by a surviving parent due to financial hardship. A typical file includes medical information, school report cards, and correspondence.

Due to the sensitive nature of the information contained within the files and the possibility that former residents may still be alive, the case files are RESTRICTED and cannot be circulated at present (2003). A list of orphans (that includes name, admission, and departure dates from the Home) can be viewed by contacting Special Collections.
