Description
Objects related to Dr. Samuel Callahan, the first African-American dentist to set up practice in Annapolis. Items include a selection of his dental tools and an example of a plaster cast and a bridge. The collection also includes a cabinet [c. 1960] produced by the Dentists' Supply Company of New York. Its drawers feature several varieties of naturalistic-looking porcelain teeth that could be presented to patients in advance of making their dentures.
History
Dr. Callahan opened his 20 Dean Street office in the mid-1950s and continued to service patients until his death in the 2002.
