Description
James E. Chambers (1916-2004), an African-American and lifelong resident of Annapolis, managed a shoe shine stand in the basement of the Maryland State House from 1949 until his death. Collection includes his obituary, his shoe shine kit, apron, and the last pair of shoes he shined (his own, shined the morning of his death in preparation for church).
