Description
A collection of artifacts, photographs, and papers relating to John S. Gittings (1848-1926) and his home, Ashburton, in Northwest Baltimore, 1885-1930. Gittings's home also appears on the 1850 Sidney map of Baltimore County and City. Also included are photographs of John S. Gittings' granddaughter, Barbara Gittings, 1995-2000.

John Sterett Gittings had a prominent career as a Banker in Baltimore. He also served in a number of public offices, including as a member of the House of Delegates from Baltimore County, as Maryland State Treasurer from 1885-1886, and later as a member of the State Board of Public Works. His family referred to him as "The Governor" or simply "Gov."

Given by Kay Lahusen in memory of her late life partner and John S. Gittings' granddaughter, Barbara Gittings.
