Description
Scholarly research for a dissertation and articles on St. Mary's County agriculture and social mobility from 1790-1840 conducted by Bayly Jackson-La Palme. The dissertation was written under the name Bayly Ellen Marks, entitled: "Economics and Society in a Staple Plantation System: St. Mary's County, Maryland, 1790-1840." 3 vols. Ph.D. dissertation, University of Maryland, 1979. Copy available in MSA SC 1400. Further research conducted during 1993-1995, took the data set from 1840 to 1860.

This collection contains two binders with spreadsheets and data collected on the population of St. Mary's County regarding professions and households, both hand-written and typed. Two additional boxes contain SPSS computer print outs from inquiries on the data set conducted at the University of Maryland College Park. Floppy diskettes (5 1/4" in. size) with the complete index of names and data sets are also preserved in this collection.
