Description
Document, a Presentment from the Grand Jury in Frederick County, Court of Oyer and Terminer and Gaol Delivery, regarding "Negro Nimrod, slave of Edward Owings, Sen." to be tried for murder of Edward Owings, Jr. in the December Term, 1815.

The document is related to a Grand Jury case in Frederick County (see related case in MSA C 853). Negro Nimrod and five other slaves owned by Charlotte Dye Owings were allegedly involved in the murder of Edward Owings. On December 21, 1815, the Special Court of Oyer and Terminer found Negro Nimrod guilty of the murder and he was sentenced to be "hanged by the neck until he be dead." Of the five other slaves, three faced the same sentence and two were found not guilty.
