Description
Deposit collection for preservation treatment and digitization. Collection of family memorabilia from the Lawtons of Washington, D.C. and later, Annapolis, MD. Ephemera relating to the family's Washington D.C. carriage business, Lawton & Sons, which fashioned custom carriages for Senators and other notable Washington citizens. Mrs. J. Edwin Lawton (Helen Hubbard Lawton) was an independently-minded woman who drove her touring car from Washington D.C. to Calais, Maine on August 12-16, 1916, accompanied by her mother and young son. The collection includes a blueprint charting the route she drove and family photographs of the Lawtons from the 1910s-1920s.
