Description
The private papers, photographs, campaign materials, and memorabilia from the political career of Secretary of State Fred L. Wineland of Prince George's County. He was appointed to the House of Delegates (Prince George's County) by Gov. J. Millard Tawes in 1963 upon the death of the incumbant. He served as the leading Delegate for Prince George's County until once again Governor Tawes appointed him to the Maryland Senate in 1965 to fill a vacancy left by the death of Senator H. Winship Wheatley, Jr. He served in the Senate until he resigned in 1971 when he was appointed Maryland Secretary of State, an office he held until 1982.
