Description
Microfilm, copy of originals at the Library of Congress in the Samuel Smith family papers:
Correspondence, letterbooks, and political and military papers of Samuel Smith (1752-1839) and his son, John Spear Smith (ca. 1790-1866). Samuel Smith's brother, Robert, served as Secretary of the Navy during the Jefferson administration and was Secretary of State under James Madison. Collection contains a small amount of correspondence that documents his resignation as Secretary of State, his return to private life in Baltimore, and his participation in family real estate transactions.
