Description
Ceremonial presentation sword, Lt. Joseph Cross. The collection also contains Cross' certificate of commission (dated April 27, 1816 and signed by James Madison) plus two documents relating to the 1890 donation of the sword back to the State of Maryland.

Cross distinguished himself in the action between the USS Constitution and the HMS Guerriere, August 19, 1812. Cross sword in exhibit in Miller Senate Building as of 1/15/05
