- March 10: Letter from Charlie to his father expressing curiosity about his current employment status in Baltimore, talking about a recent battle with the Union near Winchester, Virginia, and expressing confidence that the Union would not capture Vicksburg, Charleston, or Savannah. (4 pages)
- March 10: Letter from Charlie to Olivia asking her to write more about herself, talking about the course of the war, and his desire for peace that would entail the permanent separation of the Confederacy from the Union. (2 pages)
- March 21: Letter from Charlie to Bob describing recent battles he had participated in and mentioning the lighter side of the soldier's life. (4 pages)
- April 6: Letter from Charlie to Olivia imploring her to write to him, describing the overall confidence of the army that a peaceful conclusion to the war that favored the South was close at hand, and mentioning the death from disease of a close friend. (4 pages)
- August 26: Letter from Charlie to Olivia describing another recent successful battle (South Mountain ?) and his being wounded: A yankee in Md. struck me over the head with his sabre for which I shot him . (4 pages)

- January 30: Letter from Charlie to Olivia bemoaning the difficulty of getting letters from the Confederate army to Union territory, describing continued sorrow over his father's death, and including a description of life in winter quarters. (2 pages)
- February 3: Letter from Charlie to Olivia describing recent army engagements and his elation over receiving a letter from her. (4 pages)
- August 12: A short acrostic poem about friendship and love. (1 page)
- August 16: Letter from Charlie to Olivia talking about different family members. (1 page)
- August 30: Letter from Charlie to Olivia talking about recuperating from an illness. (4 pages)

- calling cards (c. 1890) for Kettlewell that feature a variation of the first C.S.A. flag (with the addition of a thirteenth star for Maryland) and a Confederate battle flag.
