Document, January 2, 1827 copy by John Brewer of a document from May 23, 1733. Petition of Samuel Thomas of Prince George’s County to purchase a grant of land of 500 acres called St. Winexberg from the Colonial Authority. The land was originally granted to James Brown in 1695, who later died intestate and with no heirs. Thomas promised to resurvey the land and add any contiguous and vacant land.

Description
Document, 2 loose pages.
The first page documents the 1805/1806 dispute over ownership of Negroes between J. Clark and Mr. Peerce. The verso of this page has several verses written by C.P. Fox written on a sea voyage in December 1816.
The second page also includes songs or poetry dated November 1816, front and back, written off the highlands of St. Domingo.

Document, copy of the sworn testimony of James Moore, George Beall, Robert Kessick(?), John Bradish, John Whight, Abraham Young regarding a dispute over the boundaries of a tract of land called Nock. Also present: Richard Queen, Bartin Lucas, William Young Jr., William Pearce, Aquilla Wheeler, Abraham Boyd, George (?) Ryley, and Mr. Williams.

Description
Document, November 9th 1832 record of the sale of a 40 year old male slave named Joseph, a 25 year old female slave named Maria, one cow, six hogs, one horse, one feather bed with bedsheets, one clock, eighteen chairs, two mahogany tables, two iron pots, one oven, and one frying pan from Nicholas Lyddane to William Pearce for seven hundred dollars ($700) in Montgomery County.

Description
Document, typewritten copy of pages 186-187 of “Historic Montgomery County, Maryland, Old Homes and History,” by Roger Brooke Farquhar concerning Hermitage II. The house was originally built by William Peerce in 1816-1820 but was burned by the Kensington and Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Departments in 1953 when testing new equipment.
