This is a fairly substantial file of material on Sunday Schools. Many of the letters are from O.M. Shockley, President of the Worcester County Sunday School Association. In his letters he discussed arrangments for district, cabinet, and state meetings including trying to arrange dates, locations, program topics, and speakers. Some of the speakers included Mr. Sterling, Mr. Bell, Dr. Stratton, Miss Wilson, Dr. Fergusson, and J.L. Nichols, Superintendent of Missions for the Maryland Conference Christian Endeavor. Some of his letters discussed incentive programs for Sunday Schools. In a letter from 1915, Mr. Shockley mentioned a local epidemic of measles. In another letter, he expressed his hurt at being publicly humiliated by Miss Handy. The file also includes correspondence from Ryda Mumford, Statistical Secretary and Treasurer of the Worcester County Sunday School Association. Other correspondents include Louise Mumford and Belle W. Keas. Names mentioned in the letters include Miss Lizzie Tilghman, Mrs. Vincent, Mr. Pilchard, Mr. Taylor, Reverend V.A. Miller, Mr. Potter, and Miss Horner. In addition to the letters, there is a copy of The Stevenson Herald newsletter for October 1915, several copies of the Advance Program for the 1917 Maryland State Sunday School Convention in Berwyn, and an agenda for the 1918 State Conference of Maryland Sunday School Association. There are also copies of the pamphlet, Program of Work for the Worcester County Sunday School Association, 1914. |
