Research notes

Unable to locate very much information about Day. According to the 1860 Census he as born around 1808 in Vermont. He died in the Summer of 1865; his estate was opened on June 13, 1865. He had no children or wife who survived him, and his estate, consisting of a small amount of furniture and a large quantity of stock, was distributed to his siblings Albert Day, Laura Taylor and Martha Develin.

Day worked in the early 1840s as a general agent and merchant; see notes for advertisements from the Sun. He appeared in city directories in 1842, 1845, 1856-1858, and in BC in the 1860 Census, where he lived with Christopher Hersh, his co-defendant in the 1849 civil case. An Alfred Day served in the Mexican War in a regiment from Baltimore, but this may have been the "other" Alfred Day, a harness-maker several decades younger.
