Description
Compact between New York and Massachusetts signed at Hartford in 1786. 1) use of in Tuscarora Indian claims against New York, 362 US 99 (03-7-60) UNDER THE 1786 HARTFORD COMPACT BETWEEN NEW YORK AND MASSACHUSETTS, NEW YORK WAS RECOGNIZED TO HAVE SOVEREIGNTY OVER THOSE LANDS AND MASSACHUSETTS TO OWN THE UNDERLYING FEE TO THOSE LANDS AND THE RIGHT TO PURCHASE THE SENECAS' INTEREST IN THEM.
