Description
New Testament Bible (Das Neue Testament) printed in German. Contains prison certificate insert: "Point Lookout Md. Sept 20th, 1864. From the Maryland State Bible Society to John. J. Omenhausser- Soldier in Comp'y A. 46th Reg. Virginia. Should I die on the battle field or in Hospital, for the sake of humanity, acquaint M. G. Belarve, Richmond VA or my Mother residing at J. G. Romoser 303 Saratoga St. Baltimore Md. of the fact, and where my remains may be found." This pocket German New Testament may have been given to Omenhausser when he was a prisoner of war at Point Lookout in St. Mary's County, Maryland. NOTE: Later given to R.M. Brooks Sr. February 18, 1981 by Elma Waddell.
