File contains newspaper clippings concerning patriotic and war work performed by women in Worcester County. Not all of the clippings were dated or identified. Some topics of the clippings include food conservation and preservation, book collections, collection of fruit stones and nut shells to be made into charcoal for gas masks, education initiatives, infant health, and knitting socks. Several articles discussed money raising activities through the sales of Liberty War Bonds, thrift and War Savings stamps, and special subscriptions such as Armenian-Syrian relief. Many local and state residents are mentioned with their contribution to the war work as well as a few wedding announcements and obituaries. Several articles mentioned the influenza from cancelling meetings to remedies to behaviors which help spread the disease. In addition there are articles discussing the continued work of committees after armistice, the status of women after the war, as well as the creation of a new committee to establish a War Memorial. File also contains receipts, letters from the County Extension Agent, a letter from the Henry Watson’s Children Aid Society, as well as letters from the War Loan Organization. There is a letter asking Miss Handy to organize for the election of Herbert Hoover and another from Governor Harrington asking her to take Mrs. Calvin B. Taylor’s position on the Maryland Council of Defense. Elena C. Carpenter of Chicago sent her two notes and John Benson, also in Chicago, sent her two letters concerning Mrs. Gray. There is a picture postcard of the Maternity Home in Evanston Illinois Hospital and a program from The Woman’s Club of Kensington.

Description
Most of the correspondence in this file concerns the Sinepuxent Community Show. There are two tickets from the show, a prize list as well as a request from E.I. Oswald, County Extension Agent, to sign for the amounts paid for premiums at the show. Lucy Walter also sent Miss Handy several letters concerning the Farmers’ Institute and local planning. The June 16, 1919 Weekly Newsletter to the Tomato Growers Associations is also in this file. The State Forester, Joshua A. Cope also sent her letters concerning the management of her woodlands. E. J. McLaughlin from the Bureau of Animal Industry at the U.S. Department of Agriculture also sent her notes. In addition, there is a business card from E.K. Statey of the F.G. Smith Piano Co. in Washington, D.C.

Description
In this group of materiel, Rozelle Handy received letters from Charles G. Woolsey of the Baltimore War Camp Community Service, Julia M. Robins, L. A. Covington, Miriam Sheppard Davidson, Minnie Warren, Ethel M. Dix, Lucile Collins, Ethel P. MacGregor, and Harold F. Pellegrin. Topics include the Victory Sing in Ocean City, the sales of Christmas Seals, the Health Conference sponsored by the National Tuberculosis Association, organizing a Thrift Rally, meetings of the Program Committee, a visit by Professor Gibson, and attendance at a conference held by the American Committee Relief in Near East. In addition, there are two pamphlets in the file: one requesting a donation to the Roosevelt Memorial and the other introducing the Committee of 48. The file also contains a picture postcard of the Episcopal Church and Rectory in Ocean City, Maryland.

Included in this file is a form letter from Herbert S. Houston, Treasurer of the League to Enforce Peace, asking that the recipient support the League of Nations. The other letter is from Julia M. Robins forwarding a request from Mrs. Schoemaker that the county's Woman's Section of the Maryland Council of Defense send their important records to her.

S. C. Farlow wrote asking Miss Handy to appoint someone as treasurer for the Woman's Club. In her note, Miss Farlow also mentioned the Berlin Library Association. Also included in the file is a admission card to the Berlin Woman's Club's Lawn Party at Miss Margaretta E. Purnell's.

Description
The majority of correspondence in this file concerns the establishment of the Kindergarten Extension and the Maryland Federation of Women’s Clubs. In addition, there are letters of regret stating the Dr. Henry E. Jackson would not be able to speak at a meeting. M.B. Noble sent Miss Handy a picture postcard of the New Armory in Cambridge Maryland. In another letter H. Louise C. Buchner wrote from Lansing, Michigan letting Miss Handy know that she can make no plans since her sister is dying. One of the letters promoting the advantages of Kindergarten came from Bessie Lock, Director of Kindergarten Extension at the Bureau of Education in the Department of Interior.

Correspondents in this file include Arthur E. Hungerford, Mrs. Norma Law, Mrs. Pauline N Murray, and Ella G. Henderson. Elizabeth Bishop was looking for assistance in determining whether Sergeant Littleton Robins Bishop with the 309 Machine Gun Battalion, Company C was alive. Oother topics include, Mrs. Law's search for Marrow Allen with the 357 F.A. Baty. F. – A.E.F. There is a sheet listing receipts for the Red Cross Christmas Seals campaign. Ella G. Henderson reported on her inquiry into state of three needy children. Henry Barton Jacobs sent a personal appeal to Miss Handy to attend a one day conference as the Worcester County representative for the Maryland Tuberculosis Association. Included in the file was a general plan of work at the county level for the Red Cross Christmas Seals campaign. James. B. Whaley, as the chairman for the County Historical Committee of Worcester County, Maryland Council of Defense, wrote Rozelle asking if she would be the chairman for her town and district.

Correspondents in this file include Franklin Upshur, Lucy J Walter, Esseu P. Thomas, Mary B. Pusey, Ella Coffin, Charlotte Esther Coffin, Grace Twigg, O.M. and Carrie Shockley, J.S. Armentrout, Wilber M. Smith, and Peter S. Wimbrow. In addition, there are statements and receipts from J.T. Horsey. The Boston Co., The Presbyterian Board of Publication and Sabbath-School Work, and the Salvation Army. The file also includes an attendance list on one side and a statement concerning charity funds on the reverse, as well as minutes of the Synepuxent Farmers’ Club. There is correspondence from L.P. Bowen concerning verses and an edited copy of a poem, Home, Sweet Home. Mr. Bowen indicated that Rozelle is a decendent of his first pastor, I.W.K. Handy. There are two picture postcards: one of the Poria Ostiense e Tomba di Caio Cestio Epulo, Roma and the other of the City Hall in Wilmington, Delaware.

Description
This file includes a long letter written by Elizabeth Winston Meade who mentions the following family members: Aunt Mary, Jamison, Chaille, Cora, the Dilworth “aunts,” Elizabeth’s mother, and Uncle Joe. She also mentions Mrs. Robley Jones, Dr. and Mrs. Frank Hazelhurst, Mary Elizabeth, and Miss Marnie Burnett. In addition, there is a short note from Rozelle’s brother, Lazarus in Fort Myers, Florida. Her brother, Jamison, sent her two picture postcards: one of Fall Creek Boulevard, Indianapolis, Indiana and the other of Hotel Miami in Dayton, Ohio. There is a third picture postcard of East River Drive, Farmount Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Included in the file is a 3x5 card listing care instructions for an individual, a note from Maria, and a child’s note from Jack B-. There is a photograph of seven children which is undated and unidentified. Instructions for a mile-a-minute crochet pattern are written on the back of a partial letter. The file includes a letter of thanks for her work with the Women’s Section of the State Council of Defense. Letter is dated January 13, 1920. There is an envelope with the identical seal to the one on the letter, postmarked June 14, 1920.

There are two receipts from the American Railway Express: one for a package to Mrs. Jamison Handy in Evanston, Illinois and the other to Louis B. Phelps in Hermosia Beach, California. There is one receipt for a $2.00 subscription to run from January 1, 1919 to January 1, 1921. The receipt has a printed signature for “The People” and handwritten initials of C.C.H.

Description
Primary topic of this file is religious education with much of the correspondence originating with E.M. Fergusson, General Secretary for the Maryland Sunday School Association. Miss Handy asked for information on Maryland Laws covering religious education. She also received correspondence from Henry F. Cope, General Secretary of The Religious Education Association. A special meeting was called for August 1, 1919 and there are several pieces of correspondence on that topic including an agenda and a post meeting report. In addition, O.M. Shockley wrote several notes concerning the county Sunday School organization. The file also includes a letter from W.H. Killian, Chairman of the Committee on Living Costs, as well as a copy of the Consumer’s Weekly Report on Retail Prices from the United States Food Administration. There is a short note from Lanta Dennis.

Killian, Chairman of the Committee on Living costs. The County Demonstration Agent for Worcester County was Miss Olive C. Mitchell of Salisbury, Maryland. Contents of folder are primarily concerned with woman suffrage. There is a calling card from Mrs. J. Harry Covington inviting Rozelle to a Suffrage Tea. Other correspondents include May Bartlett Dixon, Ethel Bingham Jones, Mrs. Charles E. Ellicott, Mary Wilbrow, Matilda Maloy, and Beulal Weldon . May Bartlett Dixon’s letter mentions state politics and Mary Wilbrow letters mentions attendance by Mrs. Blatch if a tea can be arranged. One Matilda Maloy’s letters asks Miss Handy to follow up on a letter sent by the state headquarters to Senator Orlando Harrison and Mr. Harry E. Palmer. There are also four flyers published by the National Woman Suffrage Publishing Company, Inc. on woman suffrage.

File contains three letters from Molly Ross who was on the World Program Staff for the East Central Field Committee of the National Board of the Young Women’s Christian Associations of the United States of American. In the letters which are undated except for one, she was trying to organize committees in all of the counties. These purpose of these committees was to keep the public aware of the Y.W.C.A.’s work.
