Video interview conducted by Dan Ramirez on December 7, 2024 with Sandra Añez Powell at the Maryland State Archives. This oral history was captured as part of The Latino History Project. Sandra Añez Powell is a Venezuelan artist and a community and outreach activist. While living in Venezuela, she studied at IUNE Venezuela to receive Special Education in Social Rehabilitation and Spanish Language and Literature. She immigrated to the U.S. and received her BA in Spanish Language and Literature Study at Eastern Kentucky University. Powell then studied and achieved her Master of Public Administration degree at Eastern Kentucky University. She promotes health awareness and prevention initiatives, particularly to Hispanic, Latin American, and migrant communities. Powell founded the South Eastern Medical Interpreter Association (SEMIA), which was the first medical interpreter association in Kentucky. Powell also founded the Bluegrass Community Health Clinic, a clinic for migrant farm workers. Powell founded and directed Mujeres Unidas (Women United) in 2001 as well. This organization aimed to connect women with health care resources. Powell currently works as a Community Relations Representative at Wellpoint Healthcare. Outside of this consistent support and love for her community, Powell also serves as an Artist, Interpreter, and Community Development VP at Mosaic Enterprises. Duration 28:44

Description
Video interview conducted by Dan Ramirez on December 7, 2024 with Sarai Hernandez Hercules at the Maryland State Archives. This oral history was captured as part of The Latino History Project. Sarai Hernandez Hercules was born in El Salvador and immigrated to Maryland. In 2020, she led the Covid response team at her church, distributing food, masks, and water to those in need, working in concert with the City of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. She has also worked with the Consulate-General of El Salvador in Silver Spring to bring health education to the Salvadoran community. In 2022, she cofounded the Anne Arundel Salvadoran Committee in conjunction with the Consulate-General of El Salvador in Silver Spring. This Committee helps link the Salvadoran community in Anne Arundel County to the resources of the Consulate and other resources in Anne Arundel County. Hernandez Hercules says "I am honored to have the privilege to tell my story, I could never have done it without the support of my husband who is my number one fan, the guidance of my parents who taught me to never give up, and most important I want to give the honor and glory to God, I live my life honoring him by loving God and loving people, love conquers all and there is no space for hate where there love." Video interview conducted by Andrew Forschler on December 4, 2024 with Tatiana J. Klein at the Maryland State Archives. This oral history was captured as part of The Latino History Project. Tatiana J. Klein was born in Costa Rica and began her music training at age 10. She pursued her love of music at Duquesne University where she received a Bachelor in Music. After becoming an American citizen in 2007, Klein found her calling as a teacher. She has taught high school Spanish at the Key School in Annapolis since 2008. She received her Master of Science in Education from Johns Hopkins University in 2017. She also holds an Artist Diploma from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Klein also holds the title of Director and Founder at the Marshall Learning Center in Annapolis. Duration: 14:50
