Description
Albumen portrait (and ornate mat and gold frame), c. 1870;
Subject of portrait is Henrietta Crack (c. 1760-1875), formerly enslaved by the Jenifer family. Crack, reputed to have died at the age of 115, served as a nanny/nurse to sucessive generations of Jenifer children. After her emancipation she continued to live with the family. This portrait supposedly remained upon the living room wall of Long Island Farm, the family residence, until shortly before the property changed ownership in 2011.
