The Prince George's Enquirer and Southern Maryland Advertiser began publication in 1882 and ceased January 30, 1925 [v. 38, no. 3]. It was published weekly. Title history based on June 20, 1884 [v. 2, no. 27]. The newspaper continues the Prince Georgian and Southern Maryland Advertiser (Upper Marlboro: weekly) and merged with the Marlboro' Gazette, and Prince George's Advertiser (Upper Marlboro: weekly) to from the Enquirer-Gazette (Upper Marlboro: 1925).

The Prince George's Enquirer and Southern Maryland Advertiser was established in December of 1882 by M.J. Slayman and Company which had bought the Prince Georgian. The editors of the paper were Frederick Sasscer, Jr. and Joseph K. Roberts. Roberts left the paper in 1888 and Sasscer continued to edit the paper, eventually becoming the owner. Samuel A. Wyvill, who had joined the paper as an apprentice in 1903, became part owner in 1909. The paper was published until January 30, 1925 when Sasscer and Wyvill bought the Marlboro Gazette from Mary E. Wilson and Charles I. Wilson. The Enquirer was continued as the Enquirer-Gazette.

Issues of this newspaper were from the collection of the Enoch Pratt Free Library and were deposited there by the publisher.
