Description
Materials relating to public relations and, more specifically, the topic of violence and extremism during the terms (1979-1987) of Governor Harry Hughes. There is also a great deal of information on Maryland's 350th Anniversary and the bicentennial of the United States Constitution.

Frances R. Smith was Constance Burns' (Chairperson, Governor's Task Force on Violence and Extremism and Appointments Officer) assistant and held many titles under Governor Harry Hughes including: Publicity Coordinator, Executive Assistant- Economic Development and Assistant Appointments Officer.

Smith was also interested in art and sold some of her works to large department stores including Lord and Taylor and Neiman Marcus as well as local firms in Maryland, Virginia, D.C., and Pennsylvania.
