Family records from the Hawken family of Williamsport, MD.

The Hawken family were prominent in the town of Williamsport, MD (Washington County) from the 1800s well into the twentieth century. Members of the family were public servants, active in civic and business organizations, and figures within the religious community. This included the office of burgess, mayor, justice of the peace, and editor of a local newspaper. In addition to records of family life and of the impact of the family on the town of Williamsport, this collection also contains records that are of significance to the history of Williamsport, independent of the Hawken family.
