Description

This is a community collection consisting of images from photographers who documented peaceful protests calling for social justice as part of the Black Lives Matter movement. Several photographers who contributed to this collection began documenting racial injustice, police brutality, and inequality in the wake of Freddie Gray's death while in custody of Baltimore City Police (2015). The present collection focuses on protests and memorials to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and others in the Summer 2020. These events were characterized by an unprecedented number of anti-racist rallies in smaller towns and communities, as well as in Baltimore, Washington D.C., and Annapolis.

Keywords: African American history and culture; activism; protests; democracy; freedom of speech
