Description
Ambrotype (glass plate) image of Peter B. Hoffman (b. 1844) and his brother Cincinnatus Hoffman (b. 1834) in gilt embossed leather case with fancy gilt metal mat around image. Both Cincinnatus Hoffman and his brother Peter B. Hoffman served in the Civil War. The image is believed to have been taken about the time of the Civil War and indications of uniforms are evident in the photo. Glenda Chilcoat has positively identified her ancestor, Cincinnatus Hoffman, as the soldier on the left looking at the image. Cincinnatus is wearing the dark coat.

Daguerreotype (2 ¾” x 3 ¼”) of a lady in an embossed leather case with plane ‘gold’ mat around image.
Hoffman family member states: "I want to be very clear that my Grandmother May A. Seitz has identified this daguerreotype image as a cousin of a cousin of her mother’s named Mary Jane McIlvaine. However, I have reached a point of discounting any McIlvaine connection to her Hoffman family and believe the lady in this Daguerreotype is more likely that of May A. Seitz’s grandmother Susanna D. Hoffman Hoffman b. 1806."
