Description
Floor covering, probably early linoleum, from Maryland State House. Found on August 19, 2008 by Maryland Historic Ttrust staff in floor joists in crawl space between old State House visitor center on first floor and Lieutenant Governor's offices on second floor. Item was attached to floor joists, possible installed c. 1858.

Description
Union Cards found in the wall of the Old Senate Chamber of the Maryland State House during 2013 renovation.

  • A) Union card from the Bricklayer's Union of Maryland #5 belonging to Charles H. Obery Jr. from April 1904. The back of the card has a handwritten note that says "Built by C. H. Obery Jr., Joseph Holland, July 29, 1906," in reference to the OSC chimney.
  • B) Stamp card on which it appears a worker would have kept track of his payments to the union. Item is undated, and it had been wrapped around the union card. Has the word "Bricklayer" stamped on the card.
  • C) Wrapper for the card.
  • D) Piece of plaster moulding found with the union card.

Description
Calvert flag, cotton, created for a special occasion, and iron wall bracket used to mount the flag pole, and wooden flag staff. The flag and related materials are a pending transfer (May 2018) to Special Collections by the Maryland Artistic Property Commission. The flag was displayed in the Calvert Room of the Maryland State House, and was removed from exhibit in the late 1990s for a repainting project.

A business card, 1879, discovered during exterior renovations of the State House. This card was afixed to the top of a balustrade post, under the metal ball finial.
