Description
Union Cards found in the wall of the Old Senate Chamber of the Maryland State House during 2013 renovation. A) Union card from the Bricklayer's Union of Maryland #5 belonging to Charles H. Obery Jr. from April 1904. The back of the card has a handwritten note that says "Built by C. H. Obery Jr., Joseph Holland, July 29, 1906," in reference to the OSC chimney. B) Stamp card on which it appears a worker would have kept track of his payments to the union. Item is undated, and it had been wrapped around the union card. Has the word "Bricklayer" stamped on the card. C) Wrapper for the card. D) Piece of plaster moulding found with the union card.
