Edward writes his last entry on September 30. The next entry is written by his sister on October 1, 1864 and records his death. Subjects include:

Fragment from the first page of a letter from Edward L. McVaugh to his sister, written on March 8th, from a Camp at Maryland Heights.
One sided. Decorated stationary with a scene of Union soldiers leading a bayonet charge against Confederate forces. Colored in red and blue. Includes images of the American flag and an eagle overhead.

Fragment of a letter from Edward L. McVaugh to his sister, written on October 20, 1862 from a Camp at Williams Port (Williamsport).
Front and back. Decorated stationary with the image of a Union solider leaving his family and the title and partial lyrics to "The Girl I Left Behind Me." Colored in red and blue.

Description
Letter from Edward L. McVaugh to his sister, July 16 from a Camp near Noxville. Edward asks his sister to send him money because he has run out and "there is no telling when we will get any more." Edward also mentions that his Corps got depleted at the Battle of Gettysburg.

Description
Letter from Edward L. McVaugh to his sister, Sallie E. McVaugh from Camp Concealment, near Williamsport, sometime after November 23rd.
Edward writes his sister asking for more letters and more money, because they haven't gotten paid yet. He also tells the story of an accident with the artillery that killed one and wounded six. One piece of shrapnel "struck our drummer boy in the head and knocked his brains out."
Perhaps late in 1862? Edward discusses the hope that "Burnsides will soon wip[sic] them Rebels so that we Can get home."

Front and back, previously folded and divided into four pages. Decorated stationary with a pine tree with American flags for leaves and big type of the word "Union" in stars and stripes. Colored in red and blue.
