Description
Correspondents in this file include the Bureau of War Risk Insurance at the Treasury Department, Office of General Supply Depot at Newport News, National Headquarters of the Woman's Section Navy League, Board of Education for Worcester County, Women's Preparedness and Survey Commission, American Ambulance in Russia, and The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in London. In addition there are letters from the following Red Cross Organizations: Home Service Section in Snow Hill, Potomac Division, Bureau of Home Service Education of the Potomac Division, and Worcester County Chapter. The letters are primarily concerned with life insurance and compensation for service men, recruitment and work with American Red Cross' Civilian Relief and Home Service. Signatures on letters include M. R. Ginn, Rozelle Purnell Handy, Mrs. P. N. Murray, M. M. Bratten, V. L. Vincent, Mr. Fred Hastings, Helen K. Shipps, Eugenia Bryant, E. Kate P. Whaley, Kate W. Purnell, Annie M Staton, P. M. Conley, Mrs. Will Brevard, and Mary E. Merritt, Hamilton Fish, Jr. In addition, there is a pamphlet, "Women and Victory" by Dr. Anna Howard Shaw, instructions on how to make a "Liberty Housewife" for service men, and a weekend pass for William Houston Cook from Camp Meade, Maryland.
