Re: draft Baldwin manuscript, almost ready
Dear Owen and Dear Dr. Papenfuse:
Attached, please find version 9 of the Baldwin draft manuscript (with my marks and comments to Dr. Wozniak). We are still double checking citations, so there is yet a bit of work to be done.
We would like to know how would you like us to cite the location of the following three documents at MSA:
a) Two Count Indictment 1156, State of Maryland vs. Sadonia Young, True Bill filed 16 June 1908
b) 4 Count Indictment 1157, State of Maryland vs. Sadonia Young, True Bill filed 16 June 1908
c) Commitment to Jail for Action," signed 10 June 1908 by Alva H. Tyson
Does MSA have the Baltimore News? I just realized (my fault) that we have the typed version of the infamous article THE NEWS — March 6, 1909 (attached) but we do not have the actual newspaper article.
If MSA has it could you have someone make a copy of the newspaper printed version and email it to us as a pdf? I will be happy to send a check.
Thank you for any feedback to the paper you may want to to provide.
Sincerely,
Jorge

Hi Jorge,
Thanks so much for passing along the draft of the article. I can't wait to see the final product. It's a great story, and I particularly enjoyed seeing the information you got from Hopkins, which does a great deal to expand on what the government records can tell you.
The full, formal citation for the court records would be:
Baltimore City Criminal Court (Criminal Papers) State v. Sadonia Young, 1908, indictment no. 1156, box no. 122 [MSA T495-134, HF/02/33/080], Maryland State Archives.
Baltimore City Criminal Court (Criminal Papers) State v. Sadonia Young, 1908, indictment no. 1157, box no. 122 [MSA T495-134, HF/02/33/080], Maryland State Archives.
If you want to abbreviate this, that's not a problem. To cite a specific document from the court file, you can add it into the citation. For example:
Baltimore City Criminal Court (Criminal Papers) State v. Sadonia Young, 1908, indictment no. 1157, Commitment to Jail, 10 June 1908, box no. 122 [MSA T495-134, HF/02/33/080], Maryland State Archives.
A copy of the News article is attached.
