Description
Letter: To "Ted" (Theodore Corner) from "George" (George Washington Corner). Baltimore. George did not hear from Ted lately, and also no one knows the whereabouts of Mary Robinson, and are a bit concerned. Sam Richardson and Tom Corner are helping look as they go to the boats every evening. Ma (Sarah Johnson Corner) and Laly (maybe Mary J. Corner) will visit soon. The Rebels are drawing closer, and a alarm was rung during the night. They thought that they were marching on Baltimore, so the Union Leagues were called to watch the barricades, but no one appeared, and they left when it began to rain. Martial law was proclaimed throughout the city and western counties of Maryland. The Federal army is falling back on Baltimore to protect it and Washington. George thinks there will be a battle nearby soon. He has bought Ted supplies. Coal, flour, and provisions prices have all advanced. The family is well.
