Description
Letter: To "Ted" (Theodore Corner) from "George" (George Washington Corner). Baltimore. Discussion of who has come to visit. Ma (Sarah Johnson Corner), Laly (likely Mary J. Corner), and George's children came back from travels. Mary Robinson came up to visit and will return home with Sam Richardson. Captain Pettibone has not arrived yet. Coal prices have risen $12 for 10. Mention of the Steamer Kent. The papers said that there was a battle on July 1st, but there is no news of results. George thinks that there was "dreadful carnage on both sides." They will need to raise the flag tomorrow. Soldiers searched people's houses for weapons, and took bird guns and muskets. George, Tom (Thomas Corner), and Meck (Mezick Corner) avoided being searched. Mezick hoped to visit Ted soon. If Lee's army comes to Baltimore, George intends on sending the bark to Annapolis for Ted to look after. The family is well.
